More About Dentures

If you have lost teeth due to diseases, accidents or poor oral health, you may be able to replace them with dentures. Dentures are natural-looking replacements for your teeth and gum. They are a custom-made and comfortable remedy to partial or complete teeth loss.

Made from hard-resin, porcelain or plastic, dentures have supporting structures that hold the artificial replacement in place. Together, they improve your smile, allow for easy chewing and maintain the structure of your mouth, cheek and lips.

Depending on your dental needs, we may recommend one of the following kinds of dentures:

Conventional full dentures begin with all of your teeth being removed. After this, your gum tissue goes through a month-long healing process without teeth in place. Once the extraction site is healed, your custom dentures will be put in place.

Immediate full dentures begin with measurements to ensure your dentures fit perfectly to your mouth. After this, your teeth are removed and your dentures are placed in the mouth directly after removal. Unlike conventional dentures, you will spend no time without teeth.

Partial dentures are a removable option that is made around your existing, natural teeth.

Common Questions

How long will my dentures last?

There are several factors that will affect the lifespan of your dentures. They will wear down and become discolored with use and age just like natural teeth. Your mouth will also change as you age, and your dentures may need to be refitted from time to time in order to match your mouth shape.

Will I be able to eat normally with dentures?

It will likely take you some time to adjust to chewing and eating with your new dentures, but over time you should be able to eat most foods normally. Always check with your dentist if any foods are causing you discomfort while chewing or if you are unsure of whether or not you should eat something.

"Friendly staff, thorough cleaning. Dr. Nieto is the very best dentist I’ve ever had (I’ve had many). She is so honest about what needs work vs. what needs watching, she is efficient and always concerned about the patient's comfort. She is also very warm and friendly."
